The Nissan Altima is a mid-sized car that has been manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Bluebird line, which began production in 1957. The Altima is one of Nissans top selling model and competes with the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Historically, the Altima has been larger, more powerful and more luxurious then the Nissan Sentra, but less so than the Nissan Maxima.
The current Altima is the 5th generation, and was released in 2013. It offers a base 4 cylinder, 1.6L engine, through to the top of the range 3.5L V6. The version offered in CSR is the 2.5L, 16-valve, DOHC inline four. Despite the 5th generation being slightly larger then previous model, this Altima is about 54kg's lighter. It is the lightest car in it's class, thanks to the efficiant use of high strength steel and aluminium in areas such as the boot, bonnet and roof. Many of the exterior styling cues have been taken from the Maxima. The 5th generation Altima does not come with either a manual, conventional automatic or dual-clutch transmission. All Altimas produced since 2013 come with CVT, continuously variable transmission, with a manual shifting mode.
